FOOD DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM
With over 15% of the population falling beneath the poverty line, food security continues to be a serious issue in Mississauga that needs to be addressed.
Fruitful Communities has joined the fight against hunger and food insecurity by providing groceries to those in need. With the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, it has become increasingly difficult for household providers to feed their families. Through our Food Distribution Program, Fruitful Communities has been able to meet the growing demand for food, with over 500 families being served per week, increased from just 80 families per week when we started in April 2020.
We serve over 500 families, over 1,000,000 pounds, and support over 20 organizations per week through the Fruitful Communities food distribution program. The number of clients who visit our food bank has grown from 60 to 130 in the month of December. We are grateful to be able to make such an impact in the community and help those who are experiencing need in this season.
Are you in need of groceries? We can help!
There are two ways our Food Distribution Program works:
If you are an individual in need of food for your family, you can visit us at our Mississauga location on one of our distribution days to receive food on a First-Come First-Served basis, while supplies last.
FOLLOW THESE STEPS:
1. Send a text message to 416.837.2711 – include your First & Last name and cell phone number.
2. You will begin to receive notifications on our opening days
3. Come to our Mississauga location at 6731 Columbus Road, Mississauga ON, L5T 2M4 – bring your own bags and/or boxes
4. Come inside and get your name on the Waiting List
5. Wait in your vehicle for a text message letting you know it is your turn.
Through our network of Community Partners, we are able to reach more families and people in need throughout the GTA. Fruitful Communities supplies thousands of pounds of food to our Community Partners which has to help them reach the most vulnerable members of their communities.
If you are an organization or individual doing group distribution, contact us to find out how we can partner with you.
