Youth in the Peel Region face great challenges in the areas of education, employment, and social engagement, especially now with the new social dynamics evolving from Covid-19. With strict social distancing measures in place, there is an increase in mental health issues due to social isolation, enhanced by schooling from home and fewer opportunities in the workforce – Statistics Canada cited a significant increase was observed in Peel’s youth (15 – 24 years) unemployment rate when the rate increased from 17.4 percent in Q3 2019 to 33.2 percent in Q3 2020.
